Workshop featuring a forest-in-a-jar and production of natural soaps, taking place on 15th April 2025, with the participation of Sungrow.

In an enlightening and hands-on experience, the Sungrow team participated in an eco-creative workshop on April 15th, organised by the foundation. The event, which focused on mindfulness, relaxation, and discussions about environmental impact, saw the team members delve into the art of handcrafting natural soaps.

Participants learned the secrets of soap-making, with natural ingredients such as plant-based oils, dried flowers, herbs, and natural dyes available for use. The workshop not only proved to be a satisfying experience but also eye-opening, as it highlighted the environmental benefits of handcrafting natural soaps compared to traditional cosmetics.

Handmade natural soaps promote environmental health by using organic, biodegradable ingredients, cutting out synthetic pollutants, minimising plastic waste, and supporting sustainable ingredient sourcing. These practices collectively reduce pollution and ecological damage compared to traditional cosmetics.

One of the key environmental advantages is biodegradability. Handmade natural soaps use plant-based oils, fats, and organic additives, which biodegrade fully without leaving harmful residues in waterways or ecosystems. In contrast, commercial soaps often contain synthetic detergents and preservatives that persist and accumulate, negatively impacting aquatic life.

Another advantage is the elimination of harmful chemicals. Handmade soaps avoid petroleum-based ingredients, synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, preservatives, and detergents present in many traditional cosmetics, reducing toxic chemical release into the environment.

The workshop also emphasised the reduced plastic and packaging waste associated with handcrafting. By making soaps at home or purchasing minimal, eco-friendly packaging, handcrafting reduces reliance on plastic containers and excessive packaging commonly found in conventional cosmetic products.

Moreover, many handmade soaps incorporate ingredients that are organic, sustainably harvested, and fair trade, minimising habitat destruction and promoting ethical environmental practices. This includes avoiding non-sustainable palm oil.

The natural glycerin retained in handmade soaps nourishes skin while avoiding synthetic additives harmful to both users and ecosystems. The cosmetics created during the workshop had unique characters due to the use of natural ingredients and dyes, and essential oils were used to create aromas.

Discussions about the harmful effects of traditional cosmetic ingredients on skin and the environment took place during the workshop, further emphasising the importance of choosing eco-friendly options. Handcrafting natural soap was found to be not only satisfying but also eye-opening, providing a personal and beautiful alternative to traditional cosmetics.

Engaging in the art of handcrafting natural soaps not only offers a rewarding personal experience but also contributes significantly to lifestyle choices that prioritize fashion-and-beauty with environmental considerations. By creating soaps using organic, biodegradable ingredients and avoiding harsh chemicals, individuals can participate in education-and-self-development regarding the importance of sustainable practices and personal-growth in reducing environmental impact.
