Update from the Executive Leadership, October 2017
In an extraordinary display of solidarity, the Environmental Education Association (EEA) has announced a virtual conference week, scheduled for October 17-19, featuring webinars and live streaming events. The conference aims to bring together educators, researchers, and enthusiasts from around the world to discuss the pressing issues of resiliency and climate change, with a special focus on supporting Puerto Rico.
The EEA's team has demonstrated exceptional work during the past few weeks, particularly in unraveling the conference due to unforeseen circumstances. The virtual conference site, created on the educator portal, will encourage comments and discussions about session content, and attendees can easily contact presenters for more information.
Presenters for accepted sessions will have the opportunity to contribute papers, short video summations, presentations, and posters on the virtual conference site. One of the highlights of the conference will be the EE 30 Under 30 panel, live-streamed from Washington, D.C. on Thursday at 3:00 PM ET.
The association's work has never been more important, and many of their conference sessions would have focused on resiliency and climate change. Over $10,000 has been donated by the association's members to the Together for Puerto Rico fund, with donations still coming in. As a result of these donations, four solar-powered generators have been sent to Puerto Rico.
To show their support, Sylvia Weir, the association's talented designer, donated her time to design the mug and the Together for Puerto Rico logo. The association will sell mugs and t-shirts online, with all proceeds going to the Together for Puerto Rico fund.
The Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP) meeting will take place in Washington, D.C. with delegates from around the world, and some of these delegates will be featured during the opening webinar on Tuesday at 2:00 PM ET. The full schedule of virtual conference events will be available online.
Therel Santos-Díaz and Elizabeth Padilla, co-chairs from Para La Naturaleza, have been instrumental in the conference's planning and have continued to collaborate despite personal distress. The support shown by attendees in the wake of the disaster has been uplifting to the association.
For those interested in attending, the association will provide links to the programs for both the Conference and Research Symposium, which will be accessible next week. For more information about the EEA and their virtual conference, please visit their official website.
