Writer's Digest University Announces August 2025 Writing Courses
Writer's Digest University is set to offer a variety of writing courses in August 2025, catering to aspiring writers across numerous genres. These courses, a blend of expert-taught workshops and comprehensive classes, aim to provide valuable insights and guidance to writers at all levels.
Screenwriting and Film Writing Courses
- 21 Days to Your Screenplay Treatment with Bryan Young (August 7–28, 2025): This workshop guides writers in crafting a strong screenplay treatment and logline, with personalized instructor feedback.
- Beginning Feature Film Writing: Complete Course with Donald H. Hewitt (starting August 14, 2025): This 12-week course takes students through the process of building a feature film screenplay from outline to all acts, including expert critiques and self-tests to reinforce learning.
- Write Your Drama Pilot in Six Weeks (details about start and end dates TBA): Led by William Rabkin, this course helps writers create compelling drama pilots.
- Prepping Your Screenplays to Win Competitions Intensive with Rebecca Norris Resnick (August 21–28, 2025): This intensive course offers guidance on preparing screenplays for competitions, with a focus on enhancing screenplay treatments, feature film writing, and writing drama pilots.
- The Nitty Gritty of Spec: Writing Strong Action and Dialogue (one-week intensive, led by Dave Trottier): This course focuses on writing compelling action and dialogue, with evaluations of five pages of a spec script.

- The Art of the Memoir: How to Write and Sell Your Life Story Boot Camp (August 14–17, 2025): This course, offered in partnership with the Talcott Notch Literary Agency, focuses on memoir writing.
- Advanced Read Like a Writer: Classic Modern Novels with Mark Spencer: This course analyses classic modern novels for writing insight.
- Advanced Television Rewriting Workshop with William Rabkin: An eight-week course focused on rewriting screenplays through submission and critique of sections.
- The Art of Storytelling 101 & 102 with Terri Valentine: These courses cover core storytelling skills such as story mapping, pacing, and the distinction between showing and telling narratives.
Live Webinar and On-Demand Content
On August 7, 2025, there is a live webinar titled "Developing Healthy Writing Habits" with script doctor Cody Smart. The 3-hour webinar, which takes place from 4:00-7:00 PM ET, aims to help writers make writing part of their daily routine and finish scripts. Each registration for the live webinar provides access to the archived version of the program and materials for one year.
Each course includes written lectures, creative exercises, writing assignments, and personalized feedback from instructors. The offerings combine on-demand content with live sessions, forming a comprehensive learning environment for screenwriting, film writing, memoir, mystery, and storytelling craft.
