Fürth District Unveils 2024 Budget: A Balancing Act Amid Cost Increases

The District of Fürth unveiled its budget for 2024 on December 11, 2023, with the motto "Consistent. Challenging." This budget comes amidst a backdrop of strong cost increases in various areas, including social services, youth, personnel costs, public transport, and the district surcharge.

The total volume of the district budget 2024 stands at approximately 179.7 million euros, an increase from the previous year's 169.3 million euros. The district's contribution for schools in 2024 is 13.84 million euros, a significant jump from the 9.88 million euros in the previous year.

One of the major expenditures in the education sector is the purchase of room modules at Oberasbach High School and Cadolzburg Support Center, costing 4 million euros and 4.6 million euros respectively. Additionally, the new construction of Langenzenn Intermediate School's sports hall will cost 9.95 million euros (from 2026), and the expansion of its gym hall will cost 3.5 million euros (also from 2025). The purchase of room modules at Langenzenn High School costs 3.02 million euros.

The expansion of Zirndorf Intermediate School is planned for 8.5 million euros (from 2025), and the general renovation of Langenzenn High School's gym hall will cost 19 million euros (from 2026). The construction project to expand the district administration in Zirndorf is continuing, with 4.5 million euros scheduled for 2024. The total cost of this project is 36.5 million euros.

In terms of infrastructure, 9 million euros are earmarked for civil engineering from 2024 to 2027, with the district bearing 5.1 million euros net.

Despite these significant expenditures, the district has managed to maintain a debt-free status by the end of 2023. However, the remaining gap can only be closed by increasing the district surcharge by 5.0 percentage points to 46.5%.

The tax base of the district, which reflects its financial performance, has increased above average by 6.9%. The district of Fürth is above the average of the Middle Franconian districts (+2.7%) and above the average of all Bavarian districts (+4.8%) in terms of tax base.

The key allocations that the district receives from the Free State of Bavaria are expected to increase by +0.65 million euros to around 24.6 million euros compared to 2023.

The district has also completed the energy-efficient general renovation of the Stein Gymnasium, which cost a total of 19.5 million euros. However, the new district commissioner (Bezirkskommissar) of the Fürth district starting January 2024 is not mentioned in the provided search results.

Loans are planned for the coming years: 13.5 million euros in 2024, 7 million euros in 2025, 19.5 million euros in 2026, and 4.5 million euros in 2027.

In conclusion, the 2024 budget for the District of Fürth is a testament to the district's commitment to education, infrastructure, and financial responsibility. Despite the challenges posed by cost increases, the district has managed to maintain a balanced budget while continuing with its ongoing projects.
