The Nordhorner Artenschutzpreis 2024 awards ceremony took place recently, with Councilor Milena Schauer, Gerwin Rademaker, and Mayor Thomas Berling presenting the awards. The event, held at one of the prize winners' locations for the first time, celebrated the achievements of individuals, clubs, associations, organizations, schools, and businesses in the field of environmental conservation.

A total of 15,000 euros was awarded across four categories. In the Individuals category, Christoph Moellerke and Elias Hoffmann shared the award, while Matthias Loebens also received an accolade. The jury, consisting of politics and administration, was particularly impressed by Christoph Moellerke's garden, which showcases a nature-friendly and structurally rich design.

Moellerke demonstrated how a garden can be maintained, developed, and optimized in a way that benefits both the environment and the structure of the garden. His commitment to nature conservation was praised by the jury, who were convinced of the garden's ecological quality during a pre-event tour.

In the Clubs, Associations, and Organizations category, the association Nordhorner Nachhaltig e.V. was recognised for its diverse commitment and practical work. The association was particularly commended for its work on the toad project, which has made a significant contribution to the conservation of local amphibian populations.

The host of the event, Mr. Dipl. Ing. Peter Olthaus, received the award in the business category. The design and layout of Olthaus's business premises were highlighted as an exemplary project in an industrial area, with the jury praising the ecologically high-quality design. Peter Olthaus and his wife Sabine emphasised the importance of living in a way that allows other organisms on this planet to have their space.

In the Schools and Kindergartens category, the Grundschule am Roggenkamp emerged victorious. The school's commitment to environmental conservation was celebrated, with the jury commending the school's efforts to create a learning environment that encourages students to appreciate and protect the natural world.

Finally, Petter Olthaus Interior Design won in the Companies category. The jury praised the design and layout of the company's premises, which provide a great example of how businesses can operate in a way that is both environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing.

The winners of the four categories are not publicly available as of now, as the organisers are still finalising the details of the awards. After the ceremony, the Olthaus family gave a tour of their company grounds, providing attendees with a closer look at the ecologically friendly design that had impressed the jury.
