Sofia and Carl Philip, Sweden's royals, are reveling in their newest addition to the family. With four kids now, they've become a perfect quartet. Their latest bundle of joy, Princess Ines, was welcomed into the world on February 7th. To express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and well-wishes, Sofia and Carl Philip shared a heartwarming photo on Instagram showcasing their three sons — Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, and Prince Julian — cuddling up with their adorable little sister.

In the caption, the proud parents couldn't help but gush, "Many thanks for all the beautiful well wishes for our little Ines."

A Royal Slip-Up

Not long after, the Swedish royal family announced the arrival of their new princess on Instagram, sharing a picture of her sleeping peacefully. King Carl Gustaf officially christened her Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia during a Council of State meeting at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Yet, even the monarch isn't immune to error. After announcing "Princess INSE Marie Lilian Silvia," he quickly caught himself and corrected to the actual name, Princess Ines. His slip-up was soon explained by a palace spokeswoman, who acknowledged that he had simply learned the name just before making the announcement.

A Family Affair

Initially, Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip welcomed their newborn in the comfort of Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm, with the prince by her side throughout the delivery. Subsequently, the entire royal family gathered to celebrate the newest addition to their fold. A special Te Deum service was held at the Royal Chapel, attended by several members of the family, including King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, and Princess Madeleine.

A Unique Name with Rich Meaning

Princess Ines's name carries a special significance, honoring not only her maternal and paternal grandmothers — Queen Silvia and Marie, respectively — but also King Carl XVI Gustaf's late aunt, Princess Lilian of Sweden, Duchess of Halland. Her middle name, Lilian, is a tribute to the aforementioned royal figure. However, despite joining the line of succession as the eighth in line to the Swedish throne, Princess Ines does not bear the title "Her Royal Highness," a choice made by King Carl XVI Gustaf in 2019.

As the newest member of the Swedish royal family, Princess Ines will surely grow up in an environment full of love and tradition. From the joy-filled introduction to her family and the world, it's clear that she is already cherished by all.

In the heartwarming Instagram post, Carl Philip of Sweden, along with his wife Sofia, expressed their gratitude for the well-wishes following the birth of their daughter, Princess Ines. During the Council of State meeting at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, it was King Carl Gustaf who officially christened Princess Ines, despite momentarily misnaming her as "Princess INSE."
