Tale Recount: Celeste de Jesus

In a twist of fate, Celeste de Jesus, born in the bustling city of New York in 2008, found herself moving to Brazil at a young age. This shift was prompted by the economic downturn that hit the Big Apple, forcing her parents to seek a better future for their daughter.

Initially, the change of countries proved challenging. With no family in Brazil to lean on, Celeste and her parents had to navigate a new culture and language on their own. However, Celeste's resilience and her parents' determination to provide her with a superior education and safer environment soon paid off.

As Celeste settled into her new life, she quickly made friends and found herself part of two groups, with whom she spent breaks during school. Her shyness and her efforts to speak English helped her form a close bond with one of her new friends, Soraia.

Celeste's childhood in Brazil was not without its highlights. She participated in theatre, school plays, and even a band, showcasing her creative flair and passion for the arts. However, her father's job required them to move again, this time to the south of Brazil, and later to the state of Piauí.

After three years, Celeste's father was able to return to Portugal due to the decreasing danger of COVID-19. This time, they moved to a new city, where Celeste has been living for about five years now. Despite the upheavals, she has an amazing friend group, loving parents, and is doing well in school.

Celeste's dreams for the future are as ambitious as they are clear. She aspires to graduate in Economics and Finance, travel to different countries, and grow professionally. Her obsession with getting good grades, a trait she exhibited even at a young age, will surely serve her well in her pursuit of these goals.

Looking back, Celeste recalls the hardest part of moving to Portugal was saying goodbye to her friends in Brazil. But the new challenges that came with her move, such as learning a new language and making new friends, have only served to strengthen her character and resilience.
