San Francisco Public Schools Raise Funds for Lawton Alternative School at Outside Lands Music Festival

At the bustling Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park, San Jose State alumnus Cameron Lutz and product manager Sydney Sosa walked from Lawton Alternative School, where they paid to park their car in a supervised lot for the festival. This year, the parking lot fundraiser for the Outside Lands Music Festival saw a significant increase in demand, with all presales being sold out.

Lutz, who is also a consultant and coach for Stanford Club Volleyball, expressed his excitement about attending the festival for the first time. Sosa, who grew up in the Bay Area like Lutz, shared his sentiments, stating, "It's great to see our community coming together for a good cause while enjoying the music and atmosphere of the festival."

The parking lot fundraiser at Lawton Alternative School for the Outside Lands Music Festival has been ongoing for nearly 10 years. Tim Murakami, the PTA secretary of the school, expressed his gratitude towards the community for supporting the schools and having fun at the festival. He mentioned that the fundraiser is one of the school's second or third biggest fundraisers, with the event expected to raise over $10,000 for the school.

Murakami stated that all 75 spots for the three-day music festival were sold out. The funds raised from the parking lot fundraiser will be used to support teacher stipends, equipment, extracurricular activities, and sports at Lawton Alternative School.

However, it is not common or documented for San Francisco public schools to hold parking lot fundraisers during Outside Lands or similar music festivals based on current available public information. While San Francisco public schools do engage in various other types of community and fundraising activities, these are typically held at school campuses or community centers and are not tied to music festivals or parking lot events.

Despite this, Lutz believes that public school education has faltered in the last couple of years and supports education for those who need it. He expressed, "It's important to support our schools and the students who rely on them for a quality education."
