School Pupils and Parents Take Note: Press Release Announcing the Commencement of School Year 2025 from PP Aalen
As the summer holidays draw to a close and students in Baden-Württemberg prepare to return to school on September 15th, the Aalen Police Headquarters is taking steps to ensure the safety of children and youths on their way to school. The police will be closely monitoring school routes and controlling traffic participants to prevent accidents and promote safe road behaviour. The responsibility for traffic safety on these routes falls to the police officers of the Polizeipräsidium Aalen, who will conduct focused controls and monitoring activities at the start of the new school year. The police recommend that children master their school route independently on foot to learn safety and routine in road traffic. Practicing the school route can train children's safe behaviour before they go to school alone, but 'parent taxis' are not recommended due to potential confusion and increased accident risks. In the area of responsibility of the Police Headquarters Aalen, there were 47 school route accidents last year, resulting in 43 slight injuries and 4 severe injuries. Nationwide, there were 378 school route accidents in Baden-Württemberg, resulting in 339 slight injuries and 35 severe injuries, with one fatal accident. To improve traffic safety, the police will conduct increased controls at the beginning of the new school year. The focus of these controls will be on seat belt usage, speed controls, behaviour towards school buses and pedestrian crossings, parking and stopping bans, distraction by mobile phones, bicycle safety, and behavior on school routes. In addition to these controls, the police offer prevention and information events, such as school route training. Further information and tips on safe school routes can be found on the website https://ppaalen.polizei-bw.de/verkehrspraevention/.
