One such apprentice is 19-year-old Jason Baker from Dagenham, East London, who began a 2-year scaffolding apprenticeship with the company last November. Currently, Jason is laboring on the Barking Fresh Wharf project, partnered with a Part 2 scaffolder with 10 years of experience.
Another success story is Conor Simmons, a 22-year-old from South East London, who joined Lee Marley Brickwork Ltd as a labourer in 2017. Conor has since progressed to become a full-term Part 2 Scaffolder and is now setting his sights on higher goals. He aims to obtain his advance scaffolding qualification and then his scaffolding supervisor qualification.
The company provides help and guidance for apprentices where needed. In addition, Lee Marley Brickwork Ltd runs twice yearly applications for scaffolding apprentice positions, usually in March and September. The company offers a dedicated training manager and onsite support for apprentices.
Training providers such as Simian Risk and the CITB are among those who offer training to Lee Marley's apprentices. Both the company and its Scaffold Director, Daniel Cooke, started out as apprentices, and Daniel comments that scaffolding is a safe and enjoyable industry with the right training.
Daniel Cooke, who divides his time between Reading and multiple sites, notes that the projects of Lee Marley Brickwork Ltd have taken place in cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. Conor Simmons, who has worked on many sites and projects over the 4 years he's been with the company, including Chelsea Creek, Embassy Gardens, Chelsea Barracks, and Kidbrooke Village, shares Daniel's ambition for the future. Conor plans to work in project/contract management.
