Breaking News: PGIMER Gets the Green Light for a 100-Bed Medical College in Sarangpur 🔥

Sarangpur project expansion gets approval for launching MBBS course by PGI.

In short: The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has secured final approval to establish a 100-bed medical college in Sarangpur, marking their first foray into offering MBBS courses.

The Lowdown: 📝

Say adios to those dreamy aspirations of being a doctor on the horizon - PGIMER has finally decided to bring a medical college to the region! After years of postgraduate courses, such as MD and MS, the prestigious institute is jumping headfirst into MBBS with a shiny, new 100-bed medical college in Sarangpur. 🎓

This isn't just any throw-together school, no sir. PGIMER's ambitious Sarangpur project won't stop at the medical college. It'll also feature an Advanced Cancer Institute, Trauma Centre, and Outpatient Departments, all spread across a vast 50-acre site. 🏥

This groundbreaking decision was formalized in a meet of the Institute Body, the highest decision-makers at the premier medical institute, where all 29 agendas were given a thumbs-up. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired the meeting, held after a whopping two-year gap. 🤝

Nadda promptly directed PGIMER to cook up a detailed project report (DPR) for the Sarangpur project, which will then be submitted to the health ministry. 📄

Up next:

  • This project aims to expand PGIMER's healthcare and training infrastructure dramatically. At present, only Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 offers MBBS seats in Chandigarh, numbering at a measly 150. 📉
  • In 2017, PGIMER announced their plans to develop health services in Sarangpur to lighten the patient load. The initial plan included shifting trauma, cancer, and kidney transplant services to the 50-acre site. 🤕
  • Since acquiring land possession on lease from the UT administration in 2021, the project's details have been revised to include a medical college, Advanced Cancer Institute, Trauma Centre, and outpatient departments. While the boundary wall has been constructed since 2022, there's been little progress since.
  1. The government's approval for PGIMER's 100-bed medical college in Sarangpur signals a significant step towards the expansion of education and self-development opportunities in health-and-wellness, particularly in the field of medical-conditions.
  2. The Sarangpur project, consisting of a medical college, Advanced Cancer Institute, Trauma Centre, and Outpatient Departments, will bolster the infrastructure of healthcare education, addressing the insufficient MBBS seats at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32.
  3. The ambitious Sarangpur project, spanning over 50 acres, will not only contribute to healthcare but also encourage scientific research and development, thus positively impacting overall health and wellness.
  4. With the addition of a medical college and specialized institutes within the Sarangpur project, PGIMER will likely play a pivotal role in the advancement of education and self-development, making strides in healthcare, science, and education.
