Revisiting the beginning, continuing forward.

The City of Innsbruck is set to host an insightful event that delves into the potential of visual narratives, the connection of art and science, and the exploration of how biographies, bodies, and power relations can and must be told today.

This thought-provoking event, part of the Innsbrucker Gender Lectures series, is a collaboration between Science and Responsibility and the Stadtbibliothek Innsbruck. The location for this engaging discussion is a Green Events Tirol site, promoting environmentally friendly arrivals.

The event will be moderated by Boris Schön, and some of the distinguished participants include Levke Harders, a professor of gender history and deputy director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies Innsbruck, and Ulli Lust, a comic artist and winner of the prestigious German Non-Fiction Book Prize.

Ulli Lust's graphic novel, "The Woman as Human," which was awarded the German Non-Fiction Book Prize in 2025, takes a feminist look back at the Stone Age. This captivating work forms a significant part of the discussion, offering a unique perspective on gender equality and female self-determination throughout history.

Levke Harders, with her particular interest in the (unequal) living conditions and scope of action of people since the late 18th century, will also be contributing her insights to the event.

Other notable artists participating in the event include Marianne Alexandre, whose comic Die Kinder der Sonnenwende explores changing gender roles and gender identity across time in a fantasy setting. Arigon Starr, with her work Round Dance, addresses gender and identity issues, and the Boyfriends series offers a fresh perspective on evolving understandings of gender and polyamory in relationships.

The graphic novel medium, with its ability to combine image and text into a narrative form, conveys complex content immediately and powerfully. This event promises to be a fascinating exploration of memory, visibility, and the freedom to rethink history.

Reservation for the event can be made by contacting 43 512 5360 5700. The event venue is barrier-free, and an induction loop is available in the event room to ensure accessibility for all.

Join us for an enlightening discussion that promises to challenge, inspire, and provoke thought on the intersection of art, science, and gender equality.
