Professor Carolyn Evans Named New Chair of Universities Australia
Professor Carolyn Evans has been named as the new Chair of Universities Australia. Her appointment is effective immediately, following the departure of Professor David Lloyd after two years at the helm and six years on the board.
Professor Evans, who joined Griffith University in 2019, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She has a career focused on academic excellence and social security, and is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. Previously, she held senior roles at the University of Melbourne. She has been a member of the Universities Australia Board since 2023, alongside new members Professor Rufus Black, Professor Harlene Hayne, and Professor Andrew Parfitt.
Professor Evans described the current time as both exciting and challenging for leading Australia's university sector. She succeeds Professor David Lloyd, who thanked colleagues and expressed optimism about the sector's future.
