Los Angeles Philharmonic Percussionist Mitchell Peters to be Inducted into Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame

Mitchell Peters, a renowned percussionist and former music professor at UCLA, will be posthumously inducted into the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) Hall of Fame. The announcement was made earlier this year, and the induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 15, 2018, in Indianapolis.

Peters joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic as a percussionist in 1969 and quickly became a vital member of the orchestra. He served as the co-principal percussionist from 1973 to 1982 and retired as the principal timpanist and percussionist in 2006. During his tenure with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Peters recorded extensively with the orchestra and made numerous appearances on motion picture and television soundtracks.

Some of his most notable works include the timpani playing in the movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact and ABC's World News Tonight's opening theme. His timpani playing can also be heard in the original Battlestar Galactica.

Joe Porcaro and Richard Weiner will also be inducted into the PAS Hall of Fame alongside Peters. Joshua Simonds, PAS Executive Director, congratulated the inductees on their well-deserved recognition.

Peters' contributions to the world of percussion and music will continue to be celebrated long after his passing on October 28, 2018, in Encinitas, CA, at the age of 82. His legacy as a dedicated and talented musician will live on through his recordings and the countless lives he touched during his career.

Despite his success in the realm of education-and-self-development as a former music professor at UCLA, Mitchell Peters' lasting legacy lies in his contributions to the world of entertainment, with his timpani playing featured in films like 2010: The Year We Make Contact and television shows such as ABC's World News Tonight. His love for music extended beyond mere entertainment, with his recordings serving as a testament to his talents and dedication.
