In the heart of French cinema, a new drama titled "The King's Way" has taken centre stage, captivating audiences since its release in 2023. Directed by Frédéric Mermoud, this thought-provoking film offers a realistic portrayal of the social barriers faced in France's prestigious educational institutions.

The film stars Suzanne Jouannet as Sophie Vasseur, a gifted young woman with a passion for mathematics. Sophie's life takes an unexpected turn when her math teacher recognises her potential and convinces her and her parents to pursue an engineering degree at a prestigious school. However, her decision to attend this elite institution causes a crisis when her classmate Diane, played by Marie Colomb, drops out, leaving Sophie to navigate the demanding, two-year preparatory class alone.

Antoine Chappey plays the role of Gérard Vasseur, Sophie's father, while Marilyne Canto portrays Caroline Vasseur, her mother. Sophie's parents own a farm, where she helps out and handles the calculations for their application for state subsidies.

Maud Wyler plays the role of Claire Fresnel, a fellow student who befriends Sophie, providing a stark contrast to the wealthy students from privileged backgrounds she encounters in the elite institution. Lorenzo Lefèbvre plays Hadrien Loiseau, another character in the film.
