PM Starmer in Mumbai to Strengthen UK-India Ties and Boost FTA

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is in Mumbai, India, for a two-day visit. Accompanied by over 100 business leaders, university vice-chancellors, and cultural chiefs, Starmer will hold key meetings with senior Indian government ministers and businesses. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral trade and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Starmer's visit comes at a time when defence cooperation between India and the UK is flourishing. Joint military exercises and technological collaboration have brought the two countries closer. The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expected to double bilateral trade to $112 billion by 2030, is a significant focus of Starmer's visit. Both Prime Ministers Modi and Starmer will deliver keynote addresses at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, underscoring the importance of the agreement. Additionally, an India-UK Net Zero Innovation Virtual Centre is planned to promote industrial decarbonisation and explore green hydrogen.

Starmer's visit to India is set to deepen bilateral trade and diplomatic relations. With defence cooperation thriving and the FTA promising significant economic growth, the two countries look forward to enhanced collaboration in various sectors, including defence, trade, and green technologies.
