Philippines Sets Record Rice Production in H1 2025

The Philippines is celebrating a bumper harvest, with record-high rice production in the first half of 2025. The Department of Agriculture has announced that over 9.07 million tons of paddy were harvested from January to June, surpassing the previous record of over 9.02 million tons in the same period of 2023. This puts the country on track to meet its annual target of 20.46 million tons.

Several factors contributed to this remarkable achievement. Favorable weather conditions played a significant role, but the government's initiatives also proved instrumental. Mechanization, improved irrigation, and the distribution of high-quality seed varieties all boosted production. Additionally, the government provided fertiliser subsidies to 5.66 million farmers, further enhancing local production. The harvested area also increased sharply, rising to over 2.12 million hectares, up from 2.065 million hectares in the same period of 2024.

The record high rice production is a testament to the Philippines' agricultural progress. While the responsibility for fertilizer subsidies allocation in 2025 remains unclear, the positive impact on production is undeniable. With continued support and favorable conditions, the country is well-positioned to meet its annual production targets and ensure food security.
