On Air: 26-Hour Live Broadcast Showcases Global Media Talent
The 'On Air' project is set to host a 26-hour live broadcast on YouTube this October 16 and 17, 2025. Backed by over 20 media technology organizations and broadcaster CNN, the event aims to showcase emerging media talent worldwide.
The live stream on October 16 will involve 500 students from across the globe, utilizing AWS reference implementation and open-source tools. This event, 'On Air', will be the first to use the Time Addressable Media Store (TAMS), based on BBC R&D's open-source API specification. TAMS will provide real-time access to ingested content, allowing students to create social media clips and edited segments during the broadcast.
Ravensbourne University in London will serve as the central hub for 'On Air's production, employing AWS, FAST channel methodologies, and AI tools. The broadcast will stream live worldwide on YouTube, with the content remaining available afterwards for employers, mentors, and educators to engage with. CNN will contribute to the event with a live segment filmed at its London studio and an hour of original programming from CNN Academy Abu Dhabi.
The 'On Air' project, supported by numerous media technology organizations and CNN, is set to provide a global platform for emerging media talent. With its innovative use of technology and real-time content access, the 26-hour live broadcast promises to be an exciting event in the media industry calendar.
