Nizhny Novgorod Governor Meets Abkhazia President, Strengthens Digital Cooperation
Governor Gleb Nikitin of the Nizhny Novgorod region recently visited Sukhumi, where he held a productive meeting with President Badri Gunba of the Republic of Abkhazia. The two leaders discussed various aspects of their long-standing partnership, including digital services, cybersecurity, and education.
The meeting marked the latest in a 15-year series of friendly and cooperative relations between the Nizhny Novgorod region and Abkhazia. These ties have encompassed numerous fields, including tourism, transport, education, and youth policy.
Governor Nikitin presented the potential of his region and key directions for bilateral cooperation to President Gunba. He also extended an invitation to Gunba and his colleagues to attend the upcoming CIPR-2026 conference. The two leaders discussed the use of digital services in the public sector and issues of cybersecurity, reflecting the modern priorities of their partnership.
Over 200 students from Abkhazia have benefited from educational opportunities in Nizhny Novgorod universities in the past. This meeting further cemented the commitment of both sides to fostering youth exchange and cooperation.
Governor Nikitin expressed his gratitude for the constructive dialogue and warm reception he received from President Gunba. He also emphasized the importance of developing and strengthening the partnership between the Nizhny Novgorod region and Abkhazia, highlighting the mutual benefits and progress achieved through their long-standing cooperation.
