Newcomers in Carpentry: 26 fresh faces join the workforce in Rhein-Kreis Neuss carpentry sector
In the vibrant Neuss district, around 70 craft businesses offer excellent opportunities for young skilled workers. One such individual who has made a name for himself is Torben Zingraf, a 21-year-old carpenter from Kaarst.
Torben completed his apprenticeship at the Schlang carpentry shop in Korschenbroich, and his journey did not go unnoticed. Upon graduation, he was honored as the top apprentice in the Neuss district. His exceptional skills were further showcased in the "Good Form" competition, where he was among the honorees.
Torben's journeyman's piece, a phonemobile with a built-in turntable, showcased his creativity and craftsmanship. His father, Oliver, who is also a trained carpenter, must be proud.
In the same competition, Julia Bauer, a 30-year-old carpenter from Neuss, stole the show. She won the "Good Form" competition and the audience vote with her makeup table made of black linoleum and oiled American walnut. Julia discovered her love for wood later in life but has found her professional home as a journeyman at MK2 carpentry in Neuss.
The jury praised Julia's piece for its unique, flowing form language and design quality. After completing her apprenticeship with the Ausbildungsgesellschaft Zimmerei Müller, Julia will remain with the company.
The ceremony, attended by around 130 guests, including County Commissioner Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke and Klaus Harder, chairman of the examination committee, was a celebration of these young craftsmen and women's achievements. Commissioner Petrauschke congratulated them, emphasizing the security of having learned a trade.
Ramon Tong (solid wood bed, A&M Holztechnik GmbH) and Thomas Kjell-Schöppe (hall furniture, Tischlerei Feiser) also received honors in the competition. Jonas Clemens (Tischlerei Holzvisionen GmbH) came in second place with a desk in the competition, while Paul Terhardt (Tischlerei Pastohr) came in third place with his "Sideboard 10°".
These young carpenters are a testament to the thriving craft scene in the Neuss district, offering a promising future for those who seek a career in the field.
