New Opportunity: Leadership and Democracy Fellowship by The Asia Foundation Now Accepting Applications

Fresh Take:

Hey there! Exciting news from The Asia Foundation! They're inviting applications for the 2021 Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed) LEAD Fellowship, a groundbreaking initiative in the Philippines designed for youth leaders who champion democratic values, active governance, and civic participation.

Application window opens between February 1st and 28th. The chosen candidates will be announced towards the end of April on the official website.

"We launched the LEAD Fellowship to empower young Filipinos to create a lasting impact in their communities," said Sam Chittick, The Asia Foundation's country representative in the Philippines. "Partnering with USAID and various organizations, we've developed this program focusing on youth for civic participation and democratic governance."

The main objective of the 2021 LEAD Fellowship is to boost informed, involved, and empowered YouthLed leaders in managing, engaging, and optimizing democratic platforms through topic-focused campaigns and development programs. In the inaugural cohort, The Asia Foundation will choose 30 promising young leaders aged 18 to 30 from diverse backgrounds nationwide.

The LEAD Fellows will experience a series of leadership and skill development activities, practical applications of these learnings, and networking opportunities that span from May 2021 to March 2023.

Throughout this two-year program, LEAD Fellows can expect benefits like access to grants for their organizations, tailor-fit development trainings, forming their own youth leadership agencies, networking with mentors, and joining the YuithLed network of young leaders in the Philippines.

Selected candidates for the YouthLed Young Leaders program can enjoy full scholarships for training programs at prestigious institutions such as the Asian Institute of Management's Future Bridging Leadership Program, Ateneo School of Government's Executive Education Courses, and Ayala Foundation Inc's Servant Leadership Program. They'll also engage in mentorship activities with the Makati Business Club and the Philippine Business for Social Progress.

To apply, candidates must submit completed applications before February 28 and provide the following:

  1. Completed application form for the LEAD Fellowship
  2. Updated resume (CV)
  3. Project proposal
  4. Budget proposal for the proposed project
  5. Two endorsement letters from employers, teachers, deans/school principals/university presidents, or verifiable mentors (excluding family members or relatives)

YouthLed values inclusivity irrespective of one's background, geographical location, religion, belief system, and social status. This fellowship encourages applications from individuals within marginalized communities including PWD, indigenous peoples, and the LGBTQI+ community.

Candidates will go through two stages of application review: a blind review followed by a panel interview. Results will be announced at the end of April.
