Martin Niemöller School Wins Statewide 'Digital Heroes' Fraud Prevention Project

Martin Niemöller School has triumphed as the state winner in a competition focused on protecting older people, taking first place alongside two other schools. Their winning project, 'Digital Heroes', demonstrates successful prevention efforts from within society, fostering social cohesion.

The school's team, led by Mr. Schulte, produced an educational film and informative flyers to educate seniors about fraud schemes. Their creative contributions stood out among 79 entries from 25 Hessian secondary schools participating in the #GrandpaHeroes challenge. The project, launched last year, aims to raise awareness and engage children and youth in protecting older people.

The winning team's efforts were recognised with a 3,000 euro prize and a special 'Day of the Police' event at their school. Interior Minister Roman Poseck and Minister of Culture Armin Schwarz visited the school to open the event, highlighting the importance of the project. The police's senior prevention work in Hesse, which includes comprehensive measures to prevent crimes against older people and increase their sense of security, was further strengthened by the school's initiative. The 'Digital Heroes' group focuses on topics such as safe internet use, media competence, data protection, cyberbullying, sexting, and fake news, making their project well-rounded and impactful.

The Martin Niemöller School's 'Digital Heroes' project has shown that young people can play a significant role in protecting older people from fraud and promoting their sense of security. Their success in the #GrandpaHeroes challenge serves as an inspiration for other schools to engage in similar initiatives.
