Malawi Supports Over 600 Young Individuals with Digital Mentorship and Financing for Innovation
The 2025 National Youth Summit, currently underway in Lilongwe, Malawi, is a three-day event (2nd to 4th July) that is transforming the landscape of digital skills, innovation, and leadership mentorship for the nation's youth. Hosted at the Bingu International Conference Centre, the summit aims to harness youth innovation for economic empowerment and sustainable job creation, in line with Malawi's vision for 2063[1].
The summit's primary organiser is the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM), with President Lazarus Chakwera officially launching the event and unveiling a K2 billion Youth Fund, designed to boost youth entrepreneurship and innovation across various sectors[1]. The summit attracts over 1,000 delegates, including 600 youth leaders, policymakers, and development partners, fostering collaboration across government, youth organisations, and development stakeholders[2].
Elton Ng'ombe, the Incident Response Officer for the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), was among the speakers at the event. Ng'ombe emphasised the importance of adhering to Malawi's digital laws, managing digital footprints wisely, and engaging on social media platforms with intention[3].
MACRA's Muuni Fund, a key player at the summit, is dedicated to transforming local ideas into scalable digital solutions. The fund is providing seed funding for youth-led digital innovation and is establishing strategic partnerships for digital innovation[4]. In addition to this, the Muuni Fund is involved in research for digital innovation, furthering the cause of digital skills development for Malawi's youth[5].
The summit's focus on equipping young people with digital skills extends beyond the event itself, with participants from all 28 districts of Malawi attending the summit. The summit offers leadership mentorship to young people, providing opportunities for them to learn, innovate, and receive guidance[6].
The 2025 National Youth Summit is not only a platform for dialogue but also a launchpad for scalable youth solutions in digital skills, innovation, and leadership. The summit continues until Friday, marking a significant step towards building a digitally empowered generation in Malawi.
