The "MENTOR - The Reading Helpers" project, managed by the Volunteer Agency in the City of Regensburg, is a long-standing initiative that aims to convey the joy of reading and strengthen reading skills among children. The project, which has been in operation since 2010, currently involves eleven schools and three after-school care facilities.

The project ceremony for "MENTOR - The Reading Helpers" took place on July 23, 2025, at the library on Haidplatz. Maria Simon, director of the Volunteer Agency, expressed her appreciation for the project and the mentors during the ceremony. The mayor of the City of Regensburg, Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, also presented IDs to the participants.

The success of the project is evident, with over 80 reading buddies participating. Each reading buddy spends a quarter of an hour once a week reading with their reading child. The project not only helps children improve their reading skills but also opens up new worlds for them.

More reading buddies are needed for the "MENTOR - The Reading Helpers" project. If you are interested in volunteering, here's a systematic way to proceed:

By volunteering as a reading buddy, you can make a significant difference in a child's life and help them discover the joy of reading.
