Leading the Way in India's Green Revolution: CII Green Business Centre

The CII Green Business Centre (CII-GBC), established in 2004 by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is leading the charge in promoting a greener and more sustainable India. Inaugurated by the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the then-President of India, CII-GBC has been at the forefront of promoting energy-efficient and eco-friendly cooling technologies, sustainable design, construction, and operations in the building industry. CII-GBC's comprehensive support extends to renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency practices, and emission reduction strategies. Through its initiatives, businesses are guided to reduce their carbon footprint and become more energy-efficient. One of CII-GBC's most notable achievements is the certification of buildings as Platinum Net Zero Energy Buildings, such as the CII-GBC itself, which has been an IGBC Platinum Net Zero Energy Building since 2019. The organisation's diverse and comprehensive approach to promoting green practices across sectors is vital in shaping India's sustainable future. CII-GBC's initiatives in energy management, green building practices, product certification, and cleantech innovation provide industries with the tools and knowledge they need to reduce their environmental impact. CII-GBC's Green Company Rating system evaluates businesses on their environmental performance and encourages continuous improvement in sustainability efforts. Meanwhile, the Green Entrepreneurship Council promotes green startups and supports clean technology innovation in India. In the realm of transportation, the Green Mobility Council focuses on promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable transportation solutions. CII-GBC is also pioneering the transformation of India's manufacturing and production processes through its Green Product Certification (GreenPro), which certifies products that are environmentally sustainable, resource-efficient, and safe for both consumers and the planet. Lastly, the Green Cooling Council, another initiative by CII-GBC, promotes the use of energy-efficient and eco-friendly cooling technologies. Through its focus on innovation, green entrepreneurship, and sustainability, CII-GBC is playing a central role in shaping the path toward a more sustainable and resilient India. CII-GBC works closely with industries, businesses, and government agencies to implement green practices on a large scale. Its efforts are helping businesses adopt best practices in energy efficiency, waste management, and renewable energy, contributing significantly to India's sustainable development goals.
