Grassroots Chess: Daltrainsugol's Annual Tournament in Action

Every year, the scenic landscapes of the Khabarovsk Territory play host to an intellectual battlefield, where young minds clash in the name of strategy and cunning: the Daltrainsugol Cup. Organized by the technological behemoth, Daltrainsugol, and part of JSC "Portovy Alliance", this annual tournament sees schoolchildren from various districts battling it out for supremacy.

The DaleTrainSoL Cup has its roots in the vision of Daltrainsugol Director, Vladimir Dolgopolov, back in 2018. With the backing of a sponsored school in Vanino village, the inaugural contest saw 15 ambitious young chess enthusiasts vie for the title. Fast forward a few years, and nearly 100 schoolchildren from villages like Oktyabrsky, Toko, Mongokto, Lososina, Tuluchi, and Sovetskaya Gavan participate in the competition.

As Dolgopolov highlighted, "The youth are our future. They need to compete, learn to lose, and embrace new opportunities. Chess is the perfect game to stimulate our future workforce to think unconventionally."

Before the pieces could be set in motion, Vaninsky District Head, Sergei Nagornyak, graced the participants with an encouraging address:

"I wish each of you commanding victories and dedicate them to our compatriots who courageously defended our nation during the war and worked tirelessly during peace times. Their efforts are the foundation of our today, and I believe in the potential of your success."

The day's proceedings took place at the Vanino District House of Culture. The competition, divided into four age groups for both individual and team competitions, saw as many as 48 young competitors secure I, II, or III positions.

Tatiana Makhova, Director of Human Resources at Daltrainsugol, presented the winners with certificates, medals, and valuable prizes. Among the prominent winners, school teams from Vanino and Sovetskaya Gavan clinched the top spots.

Team Victories:

  • Up to 9 years: I place - team of school No. 3, Vanino village
  • Up to 12 years: I place - team of school No. 4, Vanino village
  • Up to 16 years: I place - team of school No. 3, Sovetskaya Gavan city
  • Up to 19 years: I place - the same team
