NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir to Participate in Live Q&A from the International Space Station
NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir will be participating in a live Q&A session from the International Space Station on January 27. This exciting event will be hosted by the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, UC San Diego, and will be live-streamed for the public.
Meir, who made history by participating in the first all-female space walks in October and earlier this month, studied the diving physiology of penguins in Antarctica for her PhD at Scripps in 2009. Her unique background combines marine biology and space exploration, making her an inspiring figure for students and space enthusiasts alike.
The Q&A session will be emceed by UC San Diego Chancellor's Distinguished Professor of physics at the Center for Astrophysics & Space Sciences (CASS) Brian Keating and Scripps Oceanography Director Margaret Leinen. Two local middle schools, Fulton Middle School and Memorial Preparatory for Scholars and Athletes, will participate in the conversation.
Prior to the live stream, the visiting schools will hear from current graduate students at Scripps in a pre-event science panel. The Q&A session will be screened at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps' Expedition at Sea: R/V Sally Ride Gallery exhibit, and a live stream will also be available.
