NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir to Participate in Live Q&A from the International Space Station

On January 27, Jessica Meir, a NASA astronaut and marine biologist, will be answering questions live from the International Space Station. The Q&A session will be accessible to viewers both on-site at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps and remotely via live streams.

The event will take place at UC San Diego, where Meir received her PhD in marine biology. The live Q&A will be live streamed on both UC San Diego's Facebook and YouTube channels, providing an opportunity for remote viewers to participate.

Before the live Q&A, there will be a pre-event science panel featuring current graduate students at Scripps. The panel will include PhD students Kiefer Forsch, Ivan Moreno, Anai Novoa, and Tashiana Osborne.

Meir made history by participating in the first all-female space walks in October and earlier this month. The conversation during the Q&A session will be with two local middle schools: Fulton Middle School and Memorial Preparatory for Scholars and Athletes. Nearly 150 students from these schools will participate in the live Q&A.

The live stream can be watched from the 30-foot triptych inside the Expedition at Sea: R/V Sally Ride Gallery exhibit at Birch Aquarium. Watching the live stream at Birch Aquarium is included with admission.

The event will be emceed by UC San Diego Chancellor's Distinguished Professor Brian Keating and Scripps Oceanography Director Margaret Leinen.

For the most up-to-date information on the panel participants, please check Scripps Communications' official website or their social media channels.
