International initiative set forth by the Global Creative Economy Council
The Global Agenda for the Cultural and Creative Industries, a significant contribution from Creative PEC, has been launched during the World Conference on Creative Economy in Dubai. The report, available in multiple languages including French, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Portuguese, German, Bangla, Kazakh, Arabic, Indonesian, Hindi, Georgian, and English, can be downloaded with an approximate file size of 860.322 KB.
Written by the Global Creative Economy Council's predecessor, the PEC International Council, in partnership with the British Council, the Global Agenda sets out 11 key actions for international creative industries and governments worldwide. This marks the first time an international group representing the global creative industries has come together with such goals in mind.
The report underscores the importance of the creative economy, recognizing it as a dynamic engine for growth and innovation, generating jobs and income while enriching national identity and social cohesion. Cultural activities are noted as drivers of meaningful development, contributing to social cohesion and innovation.
The cultural sector is increasingly recognized for its role in climate action, with advocacy efforts to include culture-based climate actions in national commitments. The report also highlights the role of cultural and creative industries as key drivers of economic growth and innovation, with cities playing a critical role in harnessing their potential.
Recent global initiatives and summits, such as the 10th World Summit on Arts and Culture, have emphasized the complex interplay between social and economic dimensions and the essential role of culture in a livable society. The Cultural Trade Index is another example that underscores this point.
The Global Agenda was the result of a two-year coordinated discussion spanning more than 18 countries. Creative PEC, an organisation providing independent research and policy recommendations for the UK's creative industries, has been instrumental in its creation.
The report is now available for download, offering insights into the importance and potential of the creative economy and cultural industries globally. It serves as a call to action for international creative industries and governments to work together towards sustainable development in the creative sector.
