India Sets Global Record with 4.7 Lakh Students in Mega Tinkering Day
On August 12, 2025, India marked a significant milestone in its quest to foster innovation among youth with the nationwide Mega Tinkering Day event. Orchestrated by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), this event put India on the global map for mobilising innovation at scale and was recognised by both the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records.
Mega Tinkering Day 2025 saw an astonishing 4,73,350 students from 9,467 schools across India participate, setting a record for student-led innovation initiatives at scale. The event transcended geographical barriers, with students from aspirational districts and remote areas joining in. This reflects a larger movement towards making India's youth active problem-solvers.
Students showcased their creativity and teamwork by designing DIY vacuum cleaners during the event. This hands-on approach to learning not only fosters innovation but also encourages students to pursue careers in science, engineering, and entrepreneurship. AIM's establishment of over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across the country has been instrumental in cultivating these skills among students.
Mega Tinkering Day 2025 sent a strong message that innovation is happening in small towns and rural schools, affecting local communities. With such large-scale events and initiatives like the Atal Tinkering Labs, India is well on its way to creating a generation of innovative problem-solvers.
