Hesse's 'Digital in Old Age' Project Booms with 70 Support Points and 600 Volunteers
The 'Digital in Old Age - Di@-Lotsen' project has seen remarkable growth since its inception in Darmstadt, Hessen, on September 16, 2025. Now, 70 support points are established across 25 districts and independent cities in the state of Hesse, with over 600 active volunteers. The project aims to empower seniors to embrace digital technology, enhancing their independence and quality of life.
The project began in July 2021, initially focusing on setting up support points. These points, now numbering 70, are staffed by volunteer Di@-Lotsen who assist seniors in understanding and using modern technology. The Aging Coordination Office, for instance, has won over seven volunteers currently in training to become Di@-Lotsen.
State Secretary Stefan Sauer recently visited the Aging Coordination Office to acknowledge their efforts. He presented the support point sign and certificate, highlighting the importance of the project in enabling seniors to live independently with limited mobility. One of the awarded support points is located at the Aging Coordination Office in the city of Rüsselsheim.
The 'Digital in Old Age - Di@-Lotsen' project has significantly expanded its reach in Hesse, with 70 support points and over 600 active volunteers. By helping seniors overcome digital barriers, the project enables them to lead more independent and self-determined lives.
