Matay Akbaba, a student pursuing a dual bachelor's degree at the Federal Employment Agency with a focus on consulting and labor market management, recently completed a six-week internship at the Foreign Trade Chamber (AHK) in Oman.

During his time in Oman, Akbaba was involved in a variety of tasks that offered him valuable insights into international trade and business operations. His responsibilities included office work, answering emails, managing local accounting, and participating in meetings with German investors.

The internship provided Akbaba with a unique opportunity to learn about export-import processes, market research, and business networking within the Gulf region. He also honed his communication and organisational skills by assisting with event coordination and supporting the Chamber's administrative functions.

Akbaba found the people of Oman, including those in Muscat, to be friendly and open-minded. He informed himself about local customs and rules before his departure to Oman.

Oman, a country on the Arabian Peninsula, is not as well-known in Europe as some of its neighbours. It has a long coastline on the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Oman.

Akbaba alternates between practical placements at the local employment agency and study phases at the Federal Employment Agency's university in Mannheim every four months for three years. He summarised his experience in Oman as unique and reflective of the diversity of his course of study.

After graduation, Akbaba could potentially work in employment placement, personnel department, performance department, or building management. However, he is currently leaning towards employer service but is undecided.

The Bielefeld and Guetersloh employment agency is accepting applications for students starting in September 2026. Information about the application process for the employment agency can be found on their homepage.

Akbaba found the list with all cooperation partners the Foreign Trade Chamber (AHK). The AHK had capacities for an internship in Oman.

Overall, Akbaba's experience in Oman was a comprehensive learning experience that strengthened his interest and competence in foreign trade and international business environments.

Akbaba's internship at the Foreign Trade Chamber (AHK) in Oman offered him opportunities for education-and-self-development, particularly in areas such as export-import processes, market research, and business networking within the Gulf region. This experience was part of his personal-growth journey, honing his communication and organizational skills, and broadening his knowledge of international business environments.
