Gathering at Research Data Day within our collective

In November 2022, RWTH Aachen University organised an event named "RDM Compass," which was part of the Tag der Forschungsdaten (Research Data Day) in NRW. However, a search for specific details about this event, such as presentations, findings, or emphasis on data literacy and electronic laboratory notebooks, has yielded no relevant results.

The RDM Compass event is an annual event by RWTH Aachen University that focuses on research data management (RDM) topics. It aims to promote best practices in handling research data, improve data literacy among researchers, and showcase tools such as electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) which support organized and reproducible data collection.

The event typically consists of two parallel sessions: "Metadata, Ontologies and Standards" and "Training and Awareness." In the "Metadata, Ontologies and Standards" session, findings on the requirements of journal guidelines for FAIR and open data practices were presented. In the "Training and Awareness" session, RWTH Aachen University emphasised a broad approach to promote data literacy.

The use of electronic laboratory notebooks, especially the ELN Chemotion, plays a particularly important role in promoting data literacy. These modern tools facilitate digital data capture, improve data traceability, and support compliance with funding agencies’ data policies.

For researchers at all career stages and levels of research data management, the event offers insights into the university's approach to research data management. The RWTH Aachen University RDM Blog, a platform for sharing perspectives on research data management, likely contains articles discussing the RDM-Compass event and its impact.

For detailed and specific information on the 2022 event, including presentation topics and outcomes, contacting RWTH Aachen University's RDM or research support office directly or consulting their official event archives or publications would be advisable. The RWTH Aachen University Blog and RDM Blog are also sources for information about the university's events and initiatives, offering additional insights into the RDM-Compass event.

A manuscript on the topic was submitted to Pure and Applied Chemistry, and a retrospective on the RWTH Aachen University's RDM-Compass event, titled "This Was Research Data Day 2022," is available on the RWTH Aachen University Blog. The blog also contains more retrospectives on this year's Tag der Forschungsdaten.

In summary, while specific details about the RDM Compass event held in November 2022 may be hard to find, it is an important event in the RWTH Aachen University's calendar, focusing on research data management and promoting data literacy among researchers. For more information, contacting the university directly or consulting their official event archives or publications is recommended.
