As the academic year winds down in Nizhny Novgorod, high school grads face a monumental decision: where to apply and what to study? To help simplify this daunting task, the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev is hosting an Open House event before the admissions process kicks off.
Exploring the University
Mark your calendars for May 22, when Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (NNSTU) will throw open its doors. The shindig starts early, with student groups setting up shop a couple of hours prior to the official event. The NNSTU students will share their experiences and offer guidance to help prospective students choose the right program. This approach isn't new; the university understands that peers are the most approachable when it comes to discussing academic paths.
The formal program kicks off at 4:00 PM. The university's rector will discuss the institution and the key aspects of the admissions campaign.
Interested students of any grade level, parents, and students from technical schools and colleges are invited to attend. The event will be held both on-site and online for those who can't make it. For the digitally inclined, the live stream will be available on the university's social media channels.
- We anticipate attracting applicants drawn to engineering education. During the Open House event, we'll discuss the specialties on offer. Future applicants will get the chance to chat with teachers, industry representatives, and public organizations. They'll learn about today's most in-demand engineering professions, said Yevgeny Ivashkin, First Pro-Rector and Pro-Rector for Educational Activities at NNSTU named after R.E. Alekseev. - The most crucial aspect isn’t just knowledge, but where our grads will work. So, we can't stress enough the importance of discussing both what we teach and where our graduates can apply those skills.
Admissions and New Rules
The admissions process will commence roughly a month after the Open House Day, starting on June 20. NNSTU named after R.E. Alekseev will start accepting applications.
This year, the university provides over 2000 budget spots. Applicants are free to refer to last year's admission scores during the application process. However, it's essential to note that these scores tend to increase each year.
Additionally, at least 10% of all budget spots will be reserved for students with limited health abilities, orphans, veterans of military actions, and participants of a special military operation and their children. Furthermore, around 10% of budgeted spots will be offered to applicants under a separate quota—namely, participants of a special military operation and their children.
Approximately 500 spots at NNSTU will be allocated for those who enroll to study and work at an enterprise in accordance with their vocational assignment.

Submitting Applications
Regarding document submission, applicants can submit documentation online through the Gosuslugi portal or visit the university, where they will be assisted with the document submission process and guided on choosing a program of study. The admissions committee will operate from June 20th at the address: Nizhny Novgorod, Minina St., 28v, Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
If you're entering the university after a technical college, the process has changed this year. You'll only need to take one exam in your chosen field for paid spots. NNSTU will offer special preparatory courses for those entering after secondary professional education. You can find more information about these courses at this link.
The deadline for submitting documents for budgeted spots at NNSTU named after R.E. Alekseev is July 25th, and for paid spots, it is August 20th.
Detailed information about the Admission Campaign 2025 can be found on the NSTU Applicant Website.
Popular Directions
NNSTU currently offers over 59 bachelor's degree programs and more than 50 master's degree programs. With such a vast selection, applicants have numerous options to choose from. Reps from the university can already anticipate which directions will be the most popular.
Classic favorites like nuclear energy, electroenergy, and information technologies consistently attract a large number of applicants. In demand from the Institute of Industrial Technologies and Mechanical Engineering are robotics, mechatronics, and the automation of production. The competition among applicants for these directions has increased significantly in the last two to three years.
This year, there is expected to be a high demand for specialties related to shipbuilding and aircraft construction.
Visiting the Open Day at NNSTU, grads can not only familiarize themselves with the university's programs but also interact with students, future professors, potential employers, and, of course, select a specialty that resonates with them. After all, it's better to attend lectures with a future career in mind rather than just for a diploma. Additionally, NNSTU students begin internships at local companies as early as their third year, providing them with the opportunity to stand out to future employers and secure jobs even before graduation.
