Former Student Ascends to State Curator Position: Victoria (Tokarowski) Reisman Class of '07

Victoria Reisman, a Lehigh University alumna, has carved out a unique and impactful career in the world of exhibitions. After graduating in 2007 with a major in design arts, a minor in art history, and a concentration in museum studies, Reisman's journey began.

Ricardo Viera, the director of Lehigh University Art Galleries (LUAG) at the time, encouraged Reisman to pursue her dreams in museum studies. Viera's inspiring words, "You can't reinvent the news, but you can paint it a different color," resonated with Reisman, pushing her to think differently.

Following her undergraduate studies, Reisman furthered her education by earning a master's degree in museum studies from the University of Sydney in Australia. This comprehensive education laid the foundation for her future endeavours.

Reisman's career took a significant turn when she served as curator at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs. During her tenure, she created a grant-funded gallery to showcase trophies from the museum's collection. In total, she produced 21 special exhibitions, demonstrating her keen eye for design and her ability to manage galleries effectively.

After leaving the National Museum, Reisman's career path led her to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's Bureau of Historic Sites at the Peebles Island Resource Center. Here, Reisman continues to use her design skills to lay out what exhibitions should look like, despite not working directly in the design profession anymore.

In her current role, Reisman works with historic sites and parks across the state to create exhibitions. She also assists independent researchers looking for historic information at Peebles Island Resource Center. Reisman's passion for learning and discovery is evident in her statement, "Every day you get to discover something new or learn something new" about her career.

Reisman's career focus remains on creating exhibitions, a testament to her dedication and love for this field. Her journey serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that with passion and determination, one can indeed paint the news a different colour.
