Forest School Leader Top-Up Course Announced for 2025

The Forest School Association (FSA) has announced a Level 3 Forest School Leader top-up course, aimed at individuals who wish to upgrade their Level 2 Forest School Assistant qualification. This course will take place at the scenic Foxburrow Nature Reserve, IP12 1NA, and is certified by AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group.

Course Details

The course consists of five days of face-to-face training, spread across two sessions: 11th-13th November 2025 and 24th-25th November 2025, from 9:30am to 5:30pm, with an exception on day 4 where the session ends at 8pm. The course cost is £1199, with payment options and discounts available for some candidates.

The course content is divided into five units: Practical Skills, Planning and Preparation, Woodland Environment, Delivery, and Learning and Development. Participants will attend days 6 to 10 of the full Level 3 course, specifically scheduled on 19th-21st September 2025 and 25th-26th October 2025.

Entry Criteria and Requirements

To be eligible for the course, applicants must have completed an AIM-accredited Level 2 Forest School training within 18 months prior to the start of the Level 3 course. Participants are required to bring a packed lunch, suitable outdoor clothing, sturdy shoes or boots, and a camera for recording activities. For safety reasons, participants are asked not to bring their own tools.

Dogs are permitted on the red trail only, and people with limited mobility are asked to contact the organizer in advance. Participants are required to read and agree to the terms and conditions, learner agreement, diversity and inclusion policy, students complaints and appeals procedures before booking.

Course Layout

The course layout includes five days of face-to-face training, coursework portfolio, planning and delivering a six-week Forest School programme, and mentoring days. Hot drinks, all required paperwork, tools, and equipment for outdoor tasks will be provided.

Submission and Marking of Coursework

The coursework is submitted and marked through the platform Moodle. Participants have 12 months from the course start to complete their coursework portfolio, with hand-in dates set at regular intervals throughout the year following the teaching days.
