Oberhausen Police Conduct Bicycle Safety Test for Falkenstein School Students

On June 3, 2025, the Oberhausen police conducted a bicycle safety test at Falkenstein School, with 47 students from classes 4a and 4b participating. This event was part of the nationwide traffic safety campaign "sicher.mobil.leben," themed "Children in Focus."

The campaign, which has been held annually since 2018 with changing focuses, aims to improve road safety, promote sustainable and responsible mobility, and reduce traffic accidents through education and awareness. It emphasizes safe behavior among all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, alongside measures to enhance infrastructure safety.

In preparation for the test, the children had two practice days with the police. These sessions were designed to familiarise the children with the test course and to reinforce the importance of safe cycling practices. The police were supported by 16 dedicated parents who served as observation posts along the test route, a practice that continued during the practice days.

Before the test, all bicycles were checked for roadworthiness to ensure the safety of the participants. The children were equipped with bicycle helmets and warning vests to enhance their visibility on the road. Only after passing the inspection and receiving a test sticker were the children allowed onto the course.

The children completed the course independently, demonstrating their understanding of safe cycling practices. A written test was also part of the preparation for the bicycle safety test. Only those who passed the written test and made no more than ten mistakes in the practical test received their bicycle pass at the end.
