Evening lectures scheduled at Studium Generale and Osterfeld for Future event in November 2023
In a series of state-funded projects across Germany, institutions such as the FZI Research Center for Information Technology in Karlsruhe, the Siloah St. Trudpert Clinic, and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg are working on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in health and care.
Three projects, funded with a total of 2.5 million euros, are focusing on AI-based clinical decision support systems, strengthening AI infrastructure, and addressing compliance and standardization for clinical AI use.
At the Siloah St. Trudpert Clinic, IT staff and specialists are being recruited to support AI infrastructure and clinical digitalization, with roles related to clinical AI compliance advice and network infrastructure. This indicates challenges around integrating AI technology into clinical workflows and regulatory compliance.
The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is implied to be focusing on AI integration in oncology, particularly in clinical decision support and possibly radiotherapy. Ongoing development challenges include clinical validation, user acceptance, and regulatory issues.
The FZI Research Center for Information Technology in Karlsruhe is working on AI data analytics and possibly AI-driven health informatics platforms. Major challenges include quality assurance, data interoperability, and standardization.
The key challenges inferred from these projects include ensuring AI systems meet clinical compliance and regulatory standards, managing complex healthcare data securely and interoperably, integrating AI tools effectively into existing clinical workflows without disruption, and balancing innovation with quality assurance and standardization requirements.
A precise description of ongoing AI initiatives or breakthroughs is not currently available in the public domain.
Meanwhile, Frank Sieren, a leading German China expert, will be speaking at Pforzheim University on November 22nd. Sieren, who has lived in Beijing for almost 30 years and has written numerous bestsellers about China, is considered one of the few in Germany who realistically evaluate China's rise and have warned early not to underestimate China. The lecture, part of the "Studium Generale" event, begins at 7 p.m. in Room 404 of the Kulturhaus Osterfeld. Admission to the event is free.
Prof. Dr. Stephan Kruck, the Chief Physician of Urology at the Siloah St. Trudpert Clinic, and Prof. Dr. Sascha Kaufmann, a chief physician colleague, are internationally leading in cancer diagnostics. The center at the Siloah St. Trudpert Clinic has recognition technologies that are currently only available in a few German or European centers.
The "Scientific Lectures on Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care" took place on November 21st.
