The Stein City Library in Bavaria has been awarded a media voucher worth 1,000 euros as part of the annual "Lesezeichen" initiative by Bayernwerk Netz. This initiative, running for at least 19 years, aims to foster a love for reading among children and young people, and strengthen libraries as cornerstones of education.

The "Lesezeichen" initiative, a collaboration between Bayernwerk Netz, the Bavarian State Library, and the Sankt Michaelsbund, selects winners through an expert jury. This year, the Stein City Library was chosen for its commitment to promoting reading and education among its younger visitors.

Ralf Schwarz, representing Bayernwerk Netz, presented the prize to library director Andrea Trommer at the handover ceremony held at the Stein City Library. The funds will be used specifically for the purchase of new books and media, with a focus on expanding the range for children and young people.

The support from the "Lesezeichen" program has enabled the Stein City Library to improve its infrastructure and resources available for children and youth. This includes updating or expanding reading areas, acquiring age-appropriate books and media, and integrating interactive or educational elements that encourage reading and learning among young patrons.

The first mayor of the city, Kurt Kroemer, was also present at the handover, expressing his appreciation for the initiative and the positive impact it has on the community. Through "Lesezeichen," Bayernwerk Netz fosters the development of library environments that inspire literacy and cater to the needs of younger generations, helping to strengthen community engagement and support lifelong learning in Bavarian towns like Stein.

The Stein City Library is one of the 50 libraries in Bavaria to receive this funding, reflecting the widespread impact of the "Lesezeichen" initiative in promoting reading among children and young people.

The Stein City Library's considerable focus on promoting creative reading experiences aligns with the Lesezeichen initiative's mission, as it aims to enhance the education and self-development of young readers. With the 1,000 euro media voucher, the library plans to increase its library's appeal to children and young people by purchasing engaging and age-appropriate books and media. The implementation of this funding, as demonstrated by the Stein City Library, embodies Bayernwerk Netz's dedication to fostering a unique lifestyle that emphasizes and encourages learning and curiosity in Bavarian communities.
