Palucca School of Dance: A Decade-Long Commitment to Nurturing the Next Generation

The Palucca School of Dance in Dresden, a globally recognized dance institution, has witnessed a marked uptick in support from its associated body of dance enthusiasts. Established on May 31, 1995, the Palucca Support Association, by visionaries from the city, currently boasts over 100 members, many of whom are former students of the school.

Spearheaded by Christina Flume, the association's head, its primary goal has been to aid students of the school, both intellectually and materially. In the spirit of the organization's 30th anniversary, special gratitude is extended to all those who continue to champion the cause of dance.

Recipient of eternal acclaim, Gret Palucca would undoubtedly take pride in the association. A dance legend during her lifetime, she had founded the school a century ago. Today, the sole independent dance academy in Germany carries her name. The Palucca School stands for a balanced education in contemporary, classical dance, and improvisation. Its ethos advocates breaking down the barriers between these forms to encourage new avenues of expression.

In accordance with the school's founder, the association aligns itself with the principles of expression, individuality, and devotion to dance. By funding student projects and covering expenses like dance attire and shoes, the association plays an instrumental role in the students' education.

Dance supporters can sponsor pointe shoes

One notable project is the "pointe shoe sponsorship," designed to ensure that each student receives two pairs of pointe shoes annually. "Every contribution serves as a stepping stone towards the future of dance and our promising young talents on Germany's stages," remarks Katharina Christl, the school's rector.

In celebration of the anniversary, the association encourages everyone to join its vibrant support community. By paying an annual membership fee of 60 euros (with discounts for pensioners and students), members can contribute significantly to fostering young talent. Contributions can also be made specifically towards a student's pointe shoes, and the association also backs subsidies for final thesis production costs and overseas trips.

Currently, there are 144 students from more than 20 nations engaged in dance training at the school. Training commences as early as ten years of age. Through orientation classes for children in grades 5 and 6, and talen natural talent promotion classes for grades 7 to 10, the school facilitates an environment conducive to fostering future artists. Admission into the three-year Bachelor of Dance program occurs during the final year, and alongside the Bachelor, there are Master's programs in Dance Pedagogy and Choreography, as well as a Masterclass program.
