Palucca School of Dance: Committed to Nurturing Future Dance Talents - Palucca Association Celebrates 30 Years
The Palucca School of Dance in Dresden, a renowned institution in the dance world, has garnered considerable attention for the support provided by its associated organization, the Palucca Support Association. Established in 1995 by dance enthusiasts from the city, the association now boasts over 100 members, including numerous alumni of the school.
Since its inception, the association's primary goal has been to support students ideologically and materially, as stated by Christina Flume, the chairperson. "Our mission has remained constant—to accompany young people as they forge their paths towards an artistic future and provide them with a strong foundation." On the occasion of the association's 30th anniversary, appreciation is extended to all supporters who share the passion for dance.
Gret Palucca, a dance legend during her lifetime, would undeniably approve of the association. She founded the school a century ago and continued teaching until her advanced years. Today, Germany's sole independent dance academy bears her name. Palucca represents equal emphasis on contemporary, classical dance, and improvisation, striving to inspire new forms of expression.
The association's focus also encompasses the artistic philosophy of the school's founder: expression, individuality, and ardor for dance. By supporting student projects and covering costs associated with dancewear and shoes, the association significantly contributes to the students' education.
A unique project of the association is the "pointe shoe sponsorship," which enables students to obtain funding for two pairs of pointe shoes annually. Katharina Christl, the rector, notes, "Every donation is a stepping stone towards the future of dance art and our young talent on Germany's stages."
On the occasion of the anniversary, the association invites everyone to become part of the vibrant support community. By paying an annual fee of 60 euros—with reduced rates for seniors and students—members can contribute to the nurturing of the next generation. As a sponsor of pointe shoes, one can assist a specific student with a donation. The association also finances scholarships for final thesis production costs and trips abroad.
Currently, 144 students from 20 nations are undergoing dance training, with training starting as early as age ten. Orientation classes are offered to children in grade 5 and 6 to teach the fundamentals. From grades 7 to 10, the students receive talent development classes. Admission to the three-year Bachelor of Dance program is determined at the final stage. Apart from the Bachelor's, there are Master's programs in Dance Pedagogy and Choreography, as well as a Masterclass program.
