Essen's Traugott-Weise School Marks 50 Years of Inclusive Education
The Traugott-Weise School in Essen marked a significant milestone on Friday, September 19, 2025, celebrating its 50th anniversary. Over 200 students, many of whom are on the autism spectrum, attended the event. Essen's mayor, Thomas Kufen, joined the festivities to congratulate the school and its staff.
The Traugott-Weise School, established in 1975, aims to provide every child with the opportunity to develop according to their unique abilities. It offers a range of facilities to support this mission, including a swimming pool, sports hall, and a 'Fit for Future' dance project. The school also organises ski trips, providing students with diverse experiences.
Mayor Kufen praised the school staff for their dedication and recognised the students' unique talents. He highlighted the school's vital role in Essen's educational landscape, supporting children and young people with special needs. The TEACCH room at the school helps students become more independent through structured learning environments.
