In a significant development for higher education and the energy sector in Kazakhstan, France's top engineering school, Grenoble INP - Phelma, UGA, has agreed to open a branch at Satbayev University by 2026. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, with the agreement signed by the vice-presidents of the two universities.

Grenoble INP - Phelma, UGA, is renowned for its advanced educational programs in the fields of nuclear physics, electronics, and materials science. These specialties will form the core of the new branch's offerings at Satbayev University.

The new branch is set to focus on dual degree programs in Nuclear Engineering, Renewable Engineering, and Advanced Studies. This initiative aims to train specialists in strategic sectors like nuclear and renewable energy, supporting Kazakhstan's development of its first nuclear power plant. The program follows a 3+1 format, with students studying three years locally and one year in France, including internships at French nuclear power plants, providing practical training with real-world applications.

Grenoble INP - Phelma, UGA's expertise in nuclear technology, electronics, and materials science is well-recognised, and these specialties will be at the heart of the new branch's educational offerings. The programs will emphasise meeting societal challenges in fields such as energy, digital society, micro- and nanotechnologies, environment, and future industry trends.

The Ambassador of the French Republic to Kazakhstan, Sylvain Ioghe, attended the agreement signing ceremony, which was also graced by Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek. The French technical university branch is expected to open at Satbayev University by 2026, providing a significant boost to Kazakhstan's higher education and energy sectors.
