Education Official Praises School Owners for Their Important Contributions Shaping the Educational Landscape.
In a significant move towards reforming the education sector, Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones, met with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS) on September 11, 2025.
During the meeting, Jones reiterated the State Government's positions on various matters, including the ban on customized textbooks and notebooks in the school system. He emphasized that textbooks should be transferrable to younger siblings, and parents should provide separate notebooks for their children's class work or homework, rather than using textbooks as workbooks.
Jones also informed the private schools about the introduction of a new school curriculum. He promised to assist in addressing the issues of multiple taxation and other challenges raised by the Associations. In his address, he called for a good working relationship with the Ministry for seamless implementation of the New Policies.
The Commissioner's leadership qualities were commended by Pastor Reuben Jimoh, the State Chairman of NAPPS. The Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mrs Omolayo Barikisu Onasare, commended the Commissioner for his commitment to duties. Matthew Salami, the Director Basic and Secondary Education, commended private schools for their contributions to the development of education in the State.
Jones further advised all private schools operating in the State to register with NAPPS or AMIS for effective coordination and communication. He reiterated the State Government's commitment to the implementation of the State Education Law, 2020, and assured that ignorance of the law will not be an excuse.
The Commissioner concluded by promising the cooperation of the State Government to the implementation of the New Policies. He urged the participants to comply with the New Policies for the betterment of the education sector in Kogi State.
The State Government recognizes the contributions of private schools to the development of education and will ensure a conducive environment for their operations. With these new policies in place, the education sector in Kogi State is set for a transformative journey.
