Dusseldorf kicks off training period, yet admissions remain open

Starting on Tuesday, around 4,000 young individuals are set to embark on their apprenticeships in the chamber district of Düsseldorf. Despite the traditional start of the training year, numerous companies in the construction, renovation, and mobility sectors continue to seek eager apprentices, thanks to robust order books and promising career prospects.

In light of the global climate transition, these industries are experiencing high demand for young talent. Notably, professions like sanitary and heating mechanics, roofers, electronics technicians, and motor vehicle mechatronics are central to the craft sector's role in sustainable initiatives.

First-year apprentices in the sanitary, installation, or central heating trade are entitled to a training allowance of 780 euros, which increases to over 806 euros and up to 901 euros in the third year. According to Philipp Stulier, a training advisor at the Chamber of Crafts, the prospects in the crafts along the Rhine, Ruhr, and Wupper are more promising than ever.

Interested parties can find more than 1,200 unfilled training positions in over 70 professions across Düsseldorf, the Lower Rhine, western Ruhr area, and Bergisches Land. Christian Henke, the business manager responsible for education at the Chamber of Crafts Düsseldorf, encourages late-summer or early-autumn applicants, assuring them that any missed learning material can be made up with the support of employers. He recommends a trial apprenticeship in a suitable profession at a nearby training company.

The Chamber of Crafts also offers an online training and internship exchange, as well as comprehensive advice and support from counselors, which can be accessed at www.hwk-duesseldorf.de/lehrstelle. The qualified experts of the Chamber of Crafts remain reachable throughout the entire summer.

In terms of the specific number of unfilled positions, a comprehensive database across the relevant craft sectors is not readily available. However, the trend suggests that apprenticeships in these technical fields are widely accessible, especially in industrial and densely populated regions around Düsseldorf and the Ruhr area. Consulting regional Chamber of Crafts, company websites, and national job portals like Bundesagentur für Arbeit, Handwerk.de, or Metropoljob can help find open apprenticeships. Industry initiatives, such as those by energy infrastructure companies investing in climate-neutral technology, often provide technical training and apprenticeship opportunities as part of workforce development.

  1. To unlock a promising career and gain valuable skills in a field contributing to sustainable initiatives, individuals should consider apprenticeship opportunities in professions such as sanitary and heating mechanics, rooftop work, electronics technology, and motor vehicle mechatronics, as these sectors show high demand due to global climate transition.
  2. In addition to searching for apprenticeships through the Chamber of Crafts' online training and internship exchange, unfilled positions can be found across various professions in Düsseldorf, the Lower Rhine, western Ruhr area, and Bergisches Land. Applicants are encouraged to explore trial apprenticeships and seek support from employers to catch up on any missed learning material.
