Dormagen & Chipata Strengthen City Partnership with Successful Meeting
A successful work meeting between Dormagen and Chipata, held via zoom meeting from September 3 to 8, 2025, has further strengthened their city partnership. Both cities, facing similar challenges such as increasing drought, are committed to learning from each other and collaborating on sustainable solutions.
The meeting, held in Chipata, was a follow-up to the 'Evening of Encounters' in Dormagen's Historic Town Hall, which showcased life in Chipata and previous partnership work. Key topics discussed included urban drainage planning to ensure environmentally friendly rainwater and wastewater discharge, and exchange programs for trainees and young professionals.
The partnership, established with the involvement of Dormagen town and local organizations from Los Angeles and Chicago, has already seen tangible results. A donated fire truck has extinguished 98 fires, and 50 donated laptops have advanced the city's digitization. The meeting focused on exchanging experiences and planning future projects. Future plans include making the partnership more visible with a children's event and a film evening in the city library on Zambia's Independence Day, and founding the partnership association in December.
The delegation from both cities also presented partnership projects at a conference in Gießen from September 8 to 11, 2025. In Chipata, a significant reforestation effort has taken place, with 10,000 new trees planted, covering an area equivalent to 28 football fields. This meeting has not only deepened the bond between the two cities but also laid the groundwork for future collaborative projects.
