Comenius School Students Clean Up Neighborhood and Earn Praise
Students from Class M6 at Comenius School have made a significant contribution to the cleanliness of their neighborhood through a waste collection project. The initiative, centred around the theme of "Clean Environment and Waste Disposal," saw the young waste collectors gathering 203 kilograms of waste over the course of the previous school year.
The waste collection effort was not just a one-off event. The students dedicated their time to collecting waste once or twice a week, picking up discarded items around their school that others had carelessly left behind. The collected waste consisted primarily of single-use packaging from a fast-food restaurant, numerous cigarette butts, and bulky items.
Cigarette butts, in particular, pose a significant threat to the environment. They contain harmful substances that pollute water and soil, and their filters break down into microplastics. Plastic packaging also decomposes into microplastics, contaminating soil and water, and ultimately entering the food chain.
The students' hard work and commitment did not go unnoticed. Lena Fleckenstein and Heidi Bolch from the Environmental and Consumer Protection Office thanked the students and their teacher, Jens Junker, for their efforts. A photograph was taken of the occasion, with Lena Fleckenstein and Heidi Bolch thanking the students and their teacher, and Valeska Gremling capturing the moment.
The city of Aschaffenburg also expressed its gratitude to the students and their teacher. In addition to certificates, they were treated to a delicious snack as a token of appreciation. The city hopes that more individuals will follow in the footsteps of Class M6 and take similar steps to keep their city and environment clean.
While the other students involved in the "Clean Environment and Waste Disposal" project from Class M6 at Comenius Gymnasium were not specified in the available information, it is clear that their teacher, Jens Junker, played a crucial role in the project's success. The focus on "Clean Environment and Waste Disposal" was the central theme of the class for the entire school year.
The students learned valuable lessons about the consequences of carelessly discarded waste, its impact on the cityscape and the environment. Their efforts serve as a shining example of how small actions can make a big difference.
