Daily Variety Summer Break: New Occupation Every Day
Germany Launches Flexible, Free, and Stress-Free Internship Program for Youth aged 15 and Above
From the 14th of July to the 26th of August, young individuals aged 15 and above are invited to participate in a unique internship opportunity. This program, a joint effort between the Ministry of Economics, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Labor, allows participants to explore various professions in one-to-three day internships with no financial cost or stress.
The initiative offers a win-win situation, benefiting both students and businesses. For students, it presents a platform to gain insights into diverse career paths. For companies, it offers an early identification of young talents, requiring minimal effort. Exemplary performances during the internship may even lead to apprenticeships and direct entry into the profession.
While this specific program is unprecedented in its design for the 15+ age group, Germany has a rich array of internship and apprenticeship opportunities. For instance, general internships can span from a few weeks to several months, providing a valuable learning experience. These openings are available across various sectors, including but not limited to marketing, law, healthcare, engineering, and the environment.
On the other hand, Erasmus+ internships offer international exposure and a stipend for students of all disciplines. These internships can last from two to six months and may provide a springboard for further educational opportunities. Traineeships and apprenticeships are also available, often starting at age 15 or 16, offering structured learning experiences and formal qualifications.

The program encourages students to expand their education-and-self-development by exploring career-development opportunities beyond the internship, as diverse sectors like marketing, law, healthcare, engineering, and the environment offer general internships lasting from a few weeks to several months. Additionally, job-search resources may be found in the form of Erasmus+ internships, traineeships, or apprenticeships, which offer international exposure, skills-training, and formal qualifications, often starting at age 15 or 16.
