At Golisano Children's Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center, the Pediatric Links with the Community (PLC) Program is making a significant impact on the health and well-being of children in the Rochester community.

The mission of the PLC Program is to improve pediatric health through collaborative efforts among pediatricians, community leaders, and pediatric trainees. The program serves as a bridge between the hospital's pediatric specialists and community-based services, promoting comprehensive care tailored to the needs of children and families in the region.

During their community-based rotation, pediatric residents work with a variety of providers at more than 30 different community sites, providing healthcare, education, and learning how to best help underserved children and families. Some residents even opt for advanced leadership training in community health by participating in the Child Advocacy Resident Education (CARE) Track.

Recently, the PLC Program organised a friendly competition for residents to create 30-second public service announcements (PSAs) for the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester. The videos, aimed at recruiting more teenagers to get involved and promoting the annual garage sale, were well-received, according to Shawn Brown, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, and Monroe County District Attorney Michael Green, who helped to judge the competition.

The Boys & Girls Club of Rochester also received donations in honor of both winning teams from the PLC Program's challenge. Dwayne Mahoney, the executive director, provided guidance for the PSA creation.

Andrew Aligne, M.D., is the assistant professor of Pediatrics and co-director of the Pediatric Links with the Community (PLC) Program at Golisano Children's Hospital. The PLC Program is helping create a model of pediatrics that involves working with community-based organizations to assure the health of all children and advocate for their needs.

The PLC Program at Golisano Children's Hospital provides hands-on experience for pediatric residents in collaborating with community agencies. It is part of the hospital's commitment to integrating clinical care with community outreach and partnerships, including programs focusing on developmental disabilities, mental health, and safety education for pediatric populations.

Although specific detailed descriptions of the PLC program were not found in the search results, the hospital actively collaborates with community organizations and supports initiatives that enhance pediatric care accessibility outside the hospital setting. For more detailed specifics about the PLC program’s activities, goals, or structure, it would be best to consult Golisano Children’s Hospital directly or check their official departmental pediatric communications.
