Claudia Wessling Appointed Director of Communications at MERICS
Claudia Wessling, a seasoned journalist and Asia expert, has taken on the role of Director of Communications and Publications at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS). With a background in science journalism and a deep understanding of China and Indonesia, Wessling brings a wealth of experience to her new position.
Wessling's academic journey has equipped her well for her current role. She studied Chinese, Indonesian, and economics in Bonn, Wuhu, and Yogyakarta, and later pursued science journalism in Berlin. Her expertise in Asia is complemented by her extensive writing experience for publications such as Heise Technology Review, Tagesspiegel, and Handelsblatt.
In her new role at MERICS, Wessling will oversee all aspects of external communication. She will work closely with Wiebke Ewering, the Head of Press and Communications at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). Ewering, with her double Master's degree in Political Science and European Studies and her extensive experience in press and public relations, will provide valuable support to Wessling.
Claudia Wessling's appointment as Director of Communications and Publications at MERICS is expected to strengthen the institute's external communication and outreach. Her expertise in Asia and her journalistic background make her an ideal fit for the role. Together with Wiebke Ewering, they will ensure effective communication of MERICS' research and insights.
